Forum:Logimalpédie collecting dust

From Illogicopedia

Bonjour monsieurs.

Out of nothing other than pure bordeom this Sunday afternoon, I browsed through our foreign language wikis. In terms of activity, they're all pretty bare-bones, with the odd spot of activity here-and-there (I'll admit that we're not exactly excelling at this particular area ourselves), but Logimalpédie, our French sister, is in particularly rude health. In fact, there's not been an actual edit since October 2011, aside from the lovely spambots we also seem to attract in the English version.

So, I'm going to float the idea that we wind the site up. Bid it adieu. It's apparent that there's not a userbase at the wiki, there never really was unfortunately, and aside from somehow promoting it to some Frenchmen (no, that's not a double entendre), the situation is unlikely to change. Correct me if i'm wrong, but this would be a good idea from a server space and costs point of view.

Please tell me whether this either a decent or abhorrent proposal.

Also, a special mention to Malucopédia, who are doing rather well.--Ben Blade 20:36, 13 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)

The only french phrase I know translates to "I am cheese". ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 01:35, 14 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)
Clearly another sterling reason why we should consider shutting that place down.--Ben Blade 09:01, 14 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)
I have mixed feelings about it. It’s not like I’m ever going to be editing French Illogicopedia anytime soon, but at the same time it would mean losing part of the Illogicomedia family, even though it is pretty obvious at this point that the site has almost zero traffic. Also, can anyone actually confirm whether it would actually help the server or not? I would hate for us to shut it down only to find out later that the servers are just as unreliable as always marbury (talk) 16:05, 14 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)
I was thinking that if/when we move servers, not having to transfer over a wiki that doesn't have any users or edits would be a practical idea. It'd also lighten the burden on Carlb at the mo'. --Ben Blade 08:22, 15 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)
Server space is not the issue; a small wiki with no users simply isn't going to make any difference at all to any other site on these boxes, period. It's the huge wikis (like Desciclopédia or a few on uncyclopedia.info, a top-20000 website) which account for the 25-30 megabits per second being used here. Faites comme vous voulez, mais ne soyez pas surpris quand ça ne change absoluement rien. Carlb (talk) 03:11, 27 Jeremy 2013 (UTC)
I'm still using Logimalpedie. I'd be sad if you closed it. (I normally edit under this IP -- different computer at the moment. I should create an account on the English site, I suppose.) 68.230.69.195 00:24, 13 Arche 2013 (UTC)
Hello my Logimalpédie friend. It was pretty much agreed upon that deleting it would do virtually nothing to take the stress off the servers, which would be the only reason to do it anyway, so there is really no point in going through with it. And yes, if you would like to join here we would be happy to have you. --marbury (talk) 03:04, 13 Arche 2013 (UTC)
