Hypocrisy is desiring one thing for oneself and something else for certain others.[1]
For example, if someone were to use marijuana medicinally while advocating prohibition of non-medicinal uses, that would be hypocrisy. A disabled person calling for someone to save a drowning man would also be hypocritical.
The concept of hypocrisy is based on two moral principles: that a man who proposes that something be done ought to be the one to do it, and that no distinctions should be made between the circumstances of two people. We are all equal in our rights, and therefore in our responsibilities.
Notes[edit | edit source]
- ↑ The French definition of hypocrisy is completely unrelated as it refers to someone hiding their true personality, not projecting a false one.
Improve it. I'll be in the cafeteria. |
