For those who can't handle the real truth, the spinners of fake truth at Wikipedia have a thoroughly boring article on Myst.

Myst sold like hotcakes covered in crack that had been soaking in a vat of PCP. People purchased CD-ROMS just to be able to play the game. Of course bear in mind that this was all going on before the invention of Internet porn, so the enjoyment you could get out of a personal computer at the time was perhaps slightly more limited than it is now.

Parody[edit | edit source]

A parody computer game, Pyst, was released in 1996. Heavy on jokes and lite on puzzles, the game featured trailer parks, defecating seagulls, mysophobia, suicide notes, and a topless John Goodman in a hot tub.

A sequel, Driven, was planned, but since Pyst went virtually unplayed, the project was cancelled.
