I wonder if the chat volant was also the chat volé... --That creepy old pirate, Decks (talk) 22:47, 18 Arche 2013 (UTC)

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean by that. Flyingcat (talk) 01:04, 19 Arche 2013 (UTC)
I'm not quite sure what I mean either. So, are you actually French, or do you just happen to know a significant amount of the language? --That creepy old pirate, Decks (talk) 05:23, 19 Arche 2013 (UTC)

I just happen to know a significant amount of the language, yes. Can't really say I'm French. Can't comment on Frosty being cheese or the fearless detective. Flyingcat (meow!) 12:43, 28 Arply 2013 (UTC)

Those annoying stupid white spaces[edit source]

As an archangel now, I need those white spaces so I can fly around ?pedia easier

Phyllis Hyman

But seriously -

As I often use a mobile phone with a small screen, I often hit those annoying buttons on top. Even with a standard screen, I sometimes do this. Therefore, I am in the habit of adding them. Between the category/language area, I picked that up seeing it done often on Uncyclopedia. Hopefully, you now understand.

Kate (talk) 23:44, 13 Ergust 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for explaining. I figured the ones at the top were some sort of accident.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 01:32, 15 Ergust 2013 (UTC)

Template:Greet[edit source]

You did not create this template and neither have you used it. In fact it links to three pages all created by Kate. We are not confined to just one welcome template and also I have no idea why you are so fixated on edit warring over it. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 23:18, 30 Octodest 2013 (UTC)

Please don't try to imply that I am the only one fixated on edit warring. It takes two to play that game; two who are absolutely convinced they are right and no discussion is needed, usually - but I am willing to accept other points of view if they are presented coherently and I always prefer discussion if I think it is possible. In this case I did not think it was. I consider Template:Greet not to fit with Illogicopedia and Template:Welcome to be the one that truly reflects this wiki's character as well as being more interesting and I gave this rationale in my edit summary. Kate has made no justification for reverting my edit other than that it was 'stupid', which is nothing more than a personal attack.
Thank you for trying to discuss and presenting real reasons for your actions. I see where you're coming from, but I would like you to at least consider that we might be better off with one standard welcome template and one other that is either a redirect or in userspace. I am starting to think it should be in userspace, since Kate thinks it belongs to her even though this is a wiki that anyone can edit.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 02:12, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
Actually...there is a reason I am fixated. It disgusts me somehow that Kate endlessly edits the Wikia versions of the Illogicopedias and insists there be no links whatsoever to the new addreses, going so far as to get me globally blocked for a year, yet also edits the real ?pedias. Good faith or not I am simply tired of seeing her edit here - she clearly doesn't support ?pedia enough to leave alone competing sites but still acts as if she were just another Illogicopedian. I don't know if I should be thinking this way, but I am. The only reason I haven't indeffed both her accounts on the French site is that admins aren't supposed to block users who've put them through an emotional washing machine because their judgement is too cloudy. Fine, maybe Kate didn't intend to hurt my feelings, but being blocked always makes me feel terrible. I can't help it.
Wait, where was I going with this? I forgot.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 02:41, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
The existence of that template should make no difference to anything anywhere. You have had nothing to do with it, if you think it doesn't belong then simply don't use it. She has every right to see it exist. As for your anti-Wikia sentiment, it is completely irrelevant, people should freely be able to edit both as they please. People edit both Uncyclopedia on Wikia and off and it is not considered treachery. ~Sir Frosty (Talk to me!) 07:30, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)
But this isn't like Uncyclopedia. The entire community left Wikia. If you refuse to leave Wikia, you are not truly part of the community here. That is how it was in 2008 and I don't see why it should be different now.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 12:05, 31 Octodest 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for trying to keep ?pedia's French cousin alive, even though ?pedia barely gets that much traffic so I can imagine how dead the French version might be. --Mars Cadbury (talk) 14:01, 23 Novelniver 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing. I'm afraid I can't keep the place alive just by myself though - one user does not make a community. I think I need to get the attention of the French Uncyclopedia. 99.240.218.250  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 20:48, 23 Novelniver 2013 (UTC)

Did you bury those napkin holders yet?[edit source]

Oh, never mind that. Just remember that much of what I write, think and emote is jibbery-style oinkery, but I do sometimes hide meaningful stuff in there. That, and you are automatically accepted as a member of the faith of Zimizmizm, if you like. It's all very safe. Even if you don't want to be a member, but even you unintentionally join through no fault of your own, you have an out. By becoming a Zimizmizt, the first act of the faithless is to deny me and start your own schism. At that point, you can reinvent your history to leave me out of it completely and no one will be the wiser.

Thanks for your attention to this matter, or not, as the case may be. LAR Adriator-Gruntled.png 16:14, 13 Ditzimber 2013 (UTC)

Sure, thanks. Why not. The napkin holders said they'd bury themselves, but I think they're still dancing in the moonlight or whatever it was they were doing.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 23:56, 13 Ditzimber 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for voting me ?pedian of the month. That makes you cooler than Cartman in South Park in my book. LAR Adriator-Gruntled.png 13:37, 4 Arche 2014 (UTC)

Good to know.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 19:44, 4 Arche 2014 (UTC)
To be clear, I was referring to Cartman's deranged narcissism which leads him to believe that he's cool. Not the objective "truth" that Cartman is in fact an asshole (can't help it, I think it's funny). So, to be more vague, I am saying that you are incredibly cool to the level where Cartman exists in his own mind. Your coolness is real, being the case of better the baby than the bathwater. Depending on where you're standing. LAR Adriator-Gruntled.png 20:44, 4 Arche 2014 (UTC)
I see. It was my pleasure to vote for you; you're cool too.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 01:17, 5 Arche 2014 (UTC)

Wut had happened?[edit source]

You know, I'm just curious. You see I've bin reading Uncyc for a somewhat long time (at least from 2012...I think) and what I wanna know is why did Daemonica branch off from the main site? (From my limited info I know it happened before I'd discovered the site)

Butwait, the home page sez the site existed since 2004 though seeing the main page history and from waybackmachine it seems it's existed since 2006, 12:48, 5 May 2006 to be exact. Uncyc's oldest main page is from 05:40, January 5, 2005. It's funny the extent to which Daemonica goes to deny any connection with Uncyc (writing hateful stuff about it, even changing the date of creation, lol) while it's plain as shit they are a perfect copy of the Uncyc of old minus Oscar Wilde, kitten-huffing, potatoes, and some other "Uncyc-specific" things.

Did two factions of Uncyc users have a really, really violent (saying "epic" wouldnt be appropriate considering how serious it was) war sometime in 2006?

Lord Assbutt the Fourth (talk) 15:52, 18 Arply 2014 (UTC)

I don't know how Daemonica came to exist, though if I knew I would tell you. It was started with some of uncyc's content and some original content by a few people for a reason I don't know (and in fact they do have the kitten huffing article as well) though at this point much of the content appears to have been added by someone I will refer to simply as Alicia Keys, who thought it was a fine idea to rip off Uncyclopedia's content as well as some stuff from illogicopedia and wikipedia, and who seems to have some issues that cause her to write weird and/or hateful stuff for no good reason.
There, I've told you all I know. If I told you any more, I would end up talking about taco demons or something, and that couldn't possibly be of interest, could it?  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 17:36, 18 Arply 2014 (UTC)

Help meh please[edit source]

Can you request a Wikipedia admin through your Wikipedia account to unban me. Hah, some wanker over there indef banned me just when I signed up saying my name was "profane". Here's my talk page.

You already know whom but still...Lord Assbutt the Fourth (talk) 08:04, 30 Arply 2014 (UTC)

I don't think it would be such a good idea for me to do that. If anyone is going to help you with this, it's you - you have to request the unblock, as I see you've already done, and it would just be weird for another editor to do that for you. You still have talk page access so it's not like you can't request unblocking again. Also, your name may have been created in good faith but it is indeed profane, unacceptable and all that, so if you would like to be unblocked you should pick something to be renamed to without words like ass and butt in it. Lord Fluffy the Fourth or something, or maybe just read their username policy for more help. It is a policy, after all; if you don't want to follow their policies, you don't get to edit there no matter what else you do or anyone else does. That's just how it is.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 14:20, 30 Arply 2014 (UTC)

Ok thanks for your suggestion. (On seconds thoughts though I dont want to offend Mr Divine Fluff, so my new name request is for Lord Gasmanbeaneater the Fourth.) G'day.

Uncyclopedia hated me. Granted, I was in middle school when they chased me away. Last I checked, there was still a bounty on my head... is it safe for me to resurface? I've obviously matured since my last edits there, but I'm still a total grumbodillo. They're pretty racist toward my kind.--Duckwiki2.png|Fonchezzz| Quacking| 19:17, 6 Yoon 2014 (UTC)

I don't see why there would be a bounty on your head. Everything's been all well and good since 2008, and this is 2014 and we absolutely love it when people come back and edit. Even grumbodillos. You seem fine enough to me. You can also talk to me any time if you need help getting in or out of trouble.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 20:35, 6 Yoon 2014 (UTC)

With the de-red-linking stuff. I mean it. If you ever want to write/do something, let me know. --T3 04:47, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)

Thanks. I'm just reverting a single user's edits though, really, which is probably rude or something. I do write stuff from time to time, are you saying I should write more? I probably should. One can never really do enough.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 04:53, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
I'm saying I'd be willing to collaborate with you if you ever wanted to. My page does say "ULTRA-COLLABORIZER" on it for a reason. I like to extend that offer to all users I think are competent (and some that aren't... I just don't like working alone). --T3 04:56, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
Sure, thanks for the offer. Now that you mention it, I've considered writing an article on dreams but was never totally sure what to put in it - that's an idea that could float around, maybe. Or if there's anything else you'd like to collaborate on, that would be fine too. I haven't collaborated with anyone in over a year and there would be an ending to this sentence but there isn't.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 05:01, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
What if it were someone's Dream Journal where they recount their dreams, and it ends up being a coherent, albeit wacky story? --T3 05:05, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
That sounds interesting too.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 05:17, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
It's up to you. My strength is more in writing than ideas anyway (hence why I like to collaborate). --T3 05:22, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
Should one of us start something? I may or may not have to go to bed in some number of minutes. I don't really know what I'm doing here.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 05:40, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)
I'm waiting for something to download, so I'll write the first entry in the Dream Journal, I guess. You can get the next one whenever you get to it, and then so on and so on. --T3 05:54, 21 Yoon 2014 (UTC)

Boinc Boinc![edit source]

Does creating an Illogicopedia team for Cosmology@home interest you in any way?

Lord Assbutt the Fourth (talk) 16:05, 2 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)

It would if I knew what that was.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 17:55, 2 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
BOINC is a software which lets you run scientific processes on your spare processor time (though it can also be configured to run everytime if you wish). It works like this, first you download the Boinc Manager program from the BOINC site then you select a project. For that project you will begin getting "work units" ( = chunks of work that have to processed by your computer). It will automaticaly run on it's own and when it has finished successfully the results are uploaded back gaining you credit points for that project. A single work unit can take from a few hours to a few days to finish. (Dont worry, it isnt required to run the computer non-stop all that time). While doing this, you can also create/join teams of other people who are processing work units. What I wanted to say was that let's create an Illogicopedia team for crunching Cosmology@home workunits. Lord Assbutt the Fourth (talk) 11:49, 3 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
Sounds plausible.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 18:18, 3 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
Sorry for being away so long but there's good tidings...I've made an Illogicopedia team for crunching Leiden Classical units. They're processed very quickly so I hope to make the credit count for our team high very soon. Gather 'em users for this team!
117.227.107.248 11:34, 21 Ergust 2014 (UTC) (Yeah that really is Lord Assbutt, sorry I lost my password and was too lazy to get it changed.)
Coolness. Perhaps someone should create Illogicopedia:Cosmology@home to publicise this and whatnot.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 15:39, 21 Ergust 2014 (UTC)
Actually we should just name the page Illogicopedia:BOINC cuz first off I'm not crunching Cosmology@home presently, I'm doing Leiden Classical. Then also its best to leave this little experiment open to future additions (like users who crunch different sciene apps etc.) Cheers!
Lord Assbutt the Fourth (talk) 18:15, 21 Ergust 2014 (UTC)

Question[edit source]

Do you just go on Kate's contributions and get rid of everything she did? If you do, you should keep doing that. --T3 23:54, 4 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)

Actually I was going through the transclusions of {{Breton}}, since I'd just changed how it works and wanted to fix quotes that were now broken, and I knew that Kate had added a lot of Andre Breton quotes so I reverted the ones she added because I didn't think much of them. Thanks for the appreciation - I may go around digging out more of her edits.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 23:58, 4 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
So it's okay for me to come out and say HOLY CRAP HER PRESENSE WAS A NUISANCE WHERE DID SHE GO? I KINDA HOPE SHE STAYS THERE. Also I'm going to shamelessly beg you, Mr. Flycat, to contribute to my little contest o'er thattaway.... It'd be cool if all 5 active users contributed! Much turtles adieu to you and you and shoes.--Duckwiki2.png|Fonchezzz| Quacking| 15:24, 10 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
I would love to participate in your competition, but I'll have to think of an idea first and I don't seem to have come up with any just yet. Never fear, though, I'll see what I can do. I may try to do something with the line 'What do you think you're doing with that chair?'. The nice thing about Illogicopedia is that it's really quite easy to write articles for it as long as you have an idea.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 16:08, 10 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
honestly you don't even need an idea--Duckwiki2.png|Fonchezzz| Quacking| 16:33, 10 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)
Kate went to Wacky for awhile. During her time there I spoke to her a few times privately through emails. She doesn't seem to be active there anymore though and I haven't spoken to her in a few months. @Marzipan (talk) 10:30, 11 Jumbly 2014 (UTC)

Contributors do NOT own articles. It's the same thing with Wikipedia, articles on Illogicopedia belong to the community. Also Island Monkey, please sign your posts. XY007talkcontributions 07:39, 7 Arply 2015 (UTC)
Oh, oops, sorry. Monkey-butler.jpg Sincerely, islandmonkey - go speak 08:00, 7 Arply 2015 (UTC)
I don't know where you heard that, but IME we do own articles and have the right to request their deletion (just ask Mars Cadbury [1]). This is a creative writing site, not an encyclopedia, so it does not make sense to forbid ownership in the interest of covering the subject properly, whereas it is natural to allow the creator the final say. I am also familiar with the policies here and they do not cover this.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 22:18, 7 Arply 2015 (UTC)
When you post articles on Illogicopedia, you agree to release them under a Creative Commons license, as described on Illogicopedia:Copyrights and Illogicopedia can continue to host them under the terms of that license, just as Wikia can continue to host our old content on Wackypedia. That's just how wikis work. --Nerd42 (talk) 02:50, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)
I think that articles belong to the community and as the creator is a member of the community, can ask for anyone's constructive critism. Look what happened to Homosexuality, Atheism, Karl Marx, Otaku culture, Uncle Pete, a squid, several horses, and a side order of fries. Nerd42 did not like the page, so it looked like I had to speedy delete it, my position, so a mixture of both. XY007talkcontributions 23:35, 7 Arply 2015 (UTC)

I'm curious though. You were quite a great user. If it doesent irk you I'd certainly like to know why you want to distance yourself from this site. Lord Assbutt the Fourth |Talk to meh|BOINC! 19:55, 20 Arply 2015 (UTC)

I drifted off for various reasons, and I'd been considering coming back until I saw the recent Gamergate articles and the discussion of them. Nerd42's suspiciously specific denials did not convince me that the articles are not offensive and misogynist, and his insistence on denying it actually undermines his credibility; I also object to his stating that we should have voted against political articles back in 2009 because I -- among others -- was not there then, and consensus can change if not stifled by means of fait accompli. Besides, they go beyond just expressing political opinions: their disrespect for their subjects veers dangerously into "[don't be] nasty" territory. Furthermore, the articles are not illogical in the sense traditionally used here (though they are certainly lacking in logic, as has been covered extensively by others elsewhere; "ethics in gaming journalism" is not how Gamergate started or what it is about) and they are not even satire, just thinly veiled sarcasm. I would love to continue contributing to this site if it hadn't betrayed what I thought were its principles.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 04:40, 27 Arply 2015 (UTC)
Just saying, thanks for linking to TV Tropes. XY007talkcontributions 07:12, 27 Arply 2015 (UTC)
I didnt quite understand which side Nerd42 was going along, but if he was on the Anti-Zoe side I'd totally agree with him. You've been very helpful to me in my initial days and I respect you for that, but I dont think he was wrong. (Disclaimer: I'm not a gamer).

Flyingcat, screw you. Zoe Quinn is a public figure, just like any actor or politician. She has deliberately made herself a public figure, going to the mainstream media with blatant lies and when in Washington, she lies just like a politician not to mention personally engaging in her own share of doxxing and online harassment.

I put up with all kinds of left wing articles on Illogicopedia for six years. I left them alone. I didn't even bitch about it. Now it's payback time, and you have no argument but to shut the hell up. Because what goes around comes around. If you can't deal with some of the articles on the site pushing a worldview you happen to disagree with, (for whatever stupid reason someone might be defending blatant corruption) maybe you should have thought a little more critically about the ones pushing a worldview you happen to agree with. --Nerd42 (talk) 02:50, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)

Thanks Nerd. I see you got my email. As for 'the article with the overly long title' I'm rewriting it now. Collab? 202.142.129.178 03:10, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC) (xy007)

Actually, on second thought[edit source]

Flyingcat, I am reconsidering some of what I said above. I think I should have just calmed down for a bit before responding to you. I should have kept in mind that not everybody is as familiar with the events related to #GamerGate as I am. Looking at what you wrote there, you accuse me of making "suspicious specific denials." I don't think you'd have said that if you were really had the facts. I guess that, to you, it might look like I'm pulling all the stuff from those articles out of thin air, in which case sure, it might actually look to somebody unfamiliar with the history of all this that it's some kind of attempt to like, get out in front of various accusations before they're made or whatever.

But this is all after the fact. What my GamerGate articles are actually doing, for the most part, is drawing upon an ironic contrast between what #GamerGate says versus what the very publications, groups and individuals whose scandals are being exposed by #GamerGate say about #GamerGate. It's all based on stuff that Kotaku or Gawker or Destructoid or Polygon or Rock, Paper, Shotgun or Jezebel or the mainstream press have said about #GamerGate at one time or another. Going to them to find out what #GamerGate is about would be like going to Senator McCarthy to find out what Communism is about, or to Joseph Stalin to find out what anti-Communism is about. The latter comparison is actually more apt because these establishment journalists are all, without exception, on the extreme far insane lunatic Left end of the political spectrum. And their nonsense is nonsense. That's why I'm putting it in a nonsense encyclopedia. --Nerd42 (talk) 03:26, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)

Ack I think you might be actually going somewhere well. 202.142.129.178 03:27, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)
I appreciate that you reconsidered what you said, but I have read a good deal about this and it was clear you didn't pull your articles out of thin air. By "suspiciously specific denials" I meant your talk page and forum posts. I'm also not interested in discussing this because, since we're both fairly familiar with the issues and have drawn different conclusions from them, we'll undoubtedly not reach an agreement now. We're entitled to our respective opinions.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 07:51, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)
Uh... OK? XY007talkcontributions 08:07, 30 Arply 2015 (UTC)

I'm kind of under alot of pressure right now IRL and I think some of that was coming out in what I initially said. But actually, why not discuss it? Cause I don't understand how someone who really does have the facts could possibly reach the conclusion you seem to have reached, which seems to completely align with the Social Justice Warriors and to believe whatever they in their stupid San Francisco area red hair dye abusing clique says about #GamerGate. Please correct me if you actually are more of a critical thinker than that.

Do you honestly believe there is some kind of conspiracy to push women and minorities out of being game developers or gamers?

Do you really think that the real reason why every single genuine gamer on the planet hates Anita Sarkeesian is because she's a woman?

Do you think it should be surprising that someone who spends their time provoking twelve year olds from 4chan by insulting their hobby over the Internet with ever increasingly-radical Jack Thompson-style anti-video-game rhetoric starts receiving anonymous death threats from said twelve year olds? Is that a sign of "misogyny"? --Nerd42 (talk) 01:37, 1 Aym 2015 (UTC)

Illogicopedia and its endless love/hate relationship with being persuasive[edit source]

Hello. It’s me, Mars Cadbury, your lovable Illogicopedia pal.

As a general rule I try to stay out of the politics of this site and perhaps that is a poor decision on my part, with me being an administrator and all. But I do have my reasons. Firstly, the site has a relatively small userbase, so the amount of problems that can arise is fairly limited. And secondly, I feel that having really rigid rules and guidelines often scares off potential editors.

I also want to say that I think Illogicopedia is the type of website that really breeds creativity. By having virtually no quality control, Illogicopedia encourages an almost anarchistic level of creative freedom. In fact, that was one of the main reasons I joined the site in the first place, because I felt that it would be a project that would allow me to experiment with a wide range of topics and styles.

But Illogicopedia, like most MediaWiki sites, can be edited and changed by pretty much anyone, and because of it can be edited and changed by pretty much anyone, it is pretty much guaranteed that a certain amount of the website’s content is going to alienate some of its audience. This is a situation that almost every wiki has faced at one time or another.

I can’t speak for everyone, but for me the issue comes down to a matter balance. I basically have to ask myself: Does the good outweigh the bad?

For the record, I believe that Illogicopedia should have a totally non-persuasive tone. I realize that this is probably an improbability, but I do feel that it is a goal that the site should at least try to obtain. With so many other websites trying to be as didactic and persuasive as possible, I have always felt that Illogicopedia should be a sort of safe haven, a place that allows people to simply have fun and be creative without having to worry about having to defend their personal beliefs or risk getting dragged into political or religious arguments.

However, judging by the tone of most articles, it seems that this is not an opinion shared by the majority of Illogicopedia’s editors. And that’s okay. I can live with that. It’s not my Illogicopedia, it’s our Illogicopedia. If some editors want to write articles that are persuasive or even judgmental, they are totally in their rights to do so.

But that doesn’t mean that I have to join in with them. I still try to make my articles as non-judgmental as possible, even when I am writing about a prominent political pundit or a religion. I have strong opinions about certain topics, sure, but I don’t feel that Illogicopedia is really the place for me to try and promote those opinions. I’m not an apologist trying to win over converts, I’m just an idiot trying to create some stupid stuff to get a laugh out of other idiots.

I guess what I am trying to say is that Illogicopedia isn’t unified, nor will it ever be. The site has rules and guidelines, but those rules and guidelines don’t ensure that everyone will agree with the handling of every article. So basically you have to ask yourself: Does the good outweigh the bad? —Marzipan (talk) 22:10, 2 Aym 2015 (UTC)

I've made a nomination, and re-read your comment to find that I might have misread your comment (I thought the word "self-nominate" meant you nominating yourself, but now I think it might mean I nominating you, and am a bit confused). OK, then, I can officially nominate you without worrying :)--The Pioneer (A.K.A. かいたくしゃ) 09:53, 6 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)

I agree. I rarely access this website in the summer, and no other admins have been available. However, there's a problem.

The bureaucrats are dormant old farts. It took them about a year and a half to approve me (they, oddly enough, approved XY007 in a week after Gruntled put in a good word). Furthermore, unless you can effectively argue on your behalf as to why this website needs you as an admin after being nominated, they'll point out that two new admins selected within the same year (XY and me) is enough for the the time being. Again, if you can effectively argue for yourself, then I doubt they'll deny you adminship.

I'm waiting for my computer to finish making a massive update. Until then, I'm limited to making mobile edits from this terrible and slow mobile version of Illogicopedia. However, I know how to ease things a bit.

If you have the time, Flyingcat, please mark all of the anonymous IP addresses with a QD template so I can go on ahead and block them. It's all that can be done for now with the abuse filter malfunction. I would also like you to note that it is more imperative to mark the IP for blocking than marking the spam for deleting, since there are often only a max of 10 IPs disseminating multiple spam pages.

We should isolate Illogicopedia for a month. See what happens. 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 21:59, 9 Jumbly 2018 (UTC)

We might be needing a new filter[edit source]

I was thinking: since you graciously provided the code needed for creating a filter to block out droves of spam, can you do Illogicopedia another great service by creating a filter that specifically targets registered users who blank pages? I think so far that the code will have to have something along the lines of this:

"user" in user groups &
new_size == 0

And if it involves anonymous blankers, then it may include

!"user" in user groups &

Then again, this was all that I was able to gather by studying the formatting of a filter for 10 minutes, so I might be wrong. As far as I know, I can be completely inaccurate. Furthermore, you are definitely more adept at code than I am, so I would invariably entrust you with creating this filter than myself. As for this filter affecting non-vandal users, I personally don't think we should worry about that because nobody around here blanks pages except vandals (unless deleting pages counts, in which case the code will need to be revised).

Hope you can return soon to provide your input. 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 05:26, 1 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)

Sorry, didn't see this. I've been checking my email but didn't get a notification, and the onwiki notification system is still not working for me. I've been buried in JavaScript and art requests -- need to allocate my time better. Anyway... new_size = 0 should work. Your filter looks like it should do the job. I don't really know that much about abuse filters though. I also notice there's apparently a whole other field to filter by group, which I didn't know about. My head hurts.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 07:46, 2 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)
I successfully tripped your filter, but it let me save the edit anyway. Hmm. Something to do with how rate limits work? I can't test this on my 1.27 wiki where I've been testing abuse filters because it doesn't have rate limits. This will also trip for creation of blank pages and blankings in one's own userspace, which may or may not be a concern. I doubt anyone will do those things three times in one minute.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 08:29, 2 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)
I lowered it to 2 actions per minute. However, if this still allows a vandal to save its edits, then does that mean that I may have to remove the throttle function? Or should I add in the block function and restore it to 3 times per minute? Besides, only a vandal would blank pages at that rate, so the possibility of this filter affecting benevolent users is negligible (but the thing is, the block function is a really iffy function at best). Perhaps you can consult someone from MediaWiki about this? 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 17:06, 2 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)
So, I successfully tripped the filter as well, but I just realized that it would only work to slow the vandal down rather then effectively deter it. Should I put in the block function after restoring it to three actions? I can just reverse the block of a good user if they get blocked anyway. 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 17:14, 2 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)
That might be a good idea. Some edits on Special:Contributions/The dead blanker were more than a minute apart. Did you know there's a link to "test a filter against previous edits"? I don't know how reliable that is, but it might make it unnecessary to deliberately trip the filter.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 22:42, 2 Novelniver 2018 (UTC)

We've hit a small bump with this filter[edit source]

“The abuse filter shouldn't block somebody for blanking or otherwise vandalizing an article if they're the only one who's ever edited it, or if they are the creator, both of which apply to my scenario.”

Is there any way in which this can be fixed? The code that would be needed to implement this is certainly beyond my capabilities, so I'm hoping that perhaps you could make the necessary adjustments to the filter if you're able to, Flyingcat. 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! We've hit a rather big bump with this filter[edit source]

This utter peon managed to blank 10 pages without tripping Filter 8. In fact, all that happened was that the edits got tagged with "Blanking". Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 21:29, 10 Farbleum 2019 (UTC)

Upon reviewing the vandal's contributions, I found that it managed to evade being banned by blanking less than 3 times within 60 seconds. Have we been made, and if so, should we impose a stricter limit? 2+2=5 SPEAK TO ME, ILLOGIAN! Past accounts of sodomy RAVENOUS AND RUTHLESS CAPITALISM The greatest article in the history of Illogia! 21:38, 10 Farbleum 2019 (UTC)
Huh. I see. We could just change it to prevent blanking of mainspace pages, since there's probably no reason for anyone other than the author to do that at all. Wikipedia has a filter like this (changed to "disallow" very recently), which only affects non-autoconfirmed users. We could use that code with the last line changed to look for {{QD}}. It doesn't exempt page creators only because non-autoconfirmed users can't create pages in mainspace anymore there, so we'd want to keep that aspect of the existing filter.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 06:58, 11 Farbleum 2019 (UTC)

If you don't like the way the new {{Navbox}} looks, you can just revert it to before I touched it. The modules and additional templates and CSS won't hurt anything if you just ignore them (I think). Okay, sounds good. I still dislike Scribunto/Lua for making templates even more impenetrable and difficult to copy. I don't think it's really needed outside of Wikimedia projects, especially English Wikipedia where they love their rat's nests of code. I haven't been doing anything with navboxes, though. I once encountered a Wikia wiki that had a lot of articles and templates imported from Wikipedia, and they looked dreadful because Wikia doesn't have Scribunto and the templates depended on it -- all full of {{#invoke:whatever}}. Is that Wikia's fault for not installing it, or MediaWiki developers' for inventing it in the first place?  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 06:58, 21 Jeremy 2019 (UTC)
Wikia's fault. I blame wikia for everything.
I'm not a huge fan of code rats' nests either, but separating logic from markup from content seems like a good idea. Also, I didn't really intend to import all that crap, but one module led to another >_<. Bizzeebeever (talk) 10:04, 21 Jeremy 2019 (UTC)
You pushed the wrong button and a rant came out. Nothing personal. You know you can get rid of that IP address in the history if you want. You can even get rid of it really well so I can't see it.  Flyingcat (meow?)fr: 19:00, 21 Jeremy 2019 (UTC)
